HEALTHY BLADDER
BLADDER CANCER
Bladder Cancer
Bladder cancer impacts the bladder and is among the more common cancers globally. It generally begins in the cells lining the bladder, with higher occurrences associated with smoking, chemical exposures, and chronic bladder conditions.
Causes
The exact cause of bladder cancer is not fully understood. Bladder cancer develops when bladder cells experience DNA mutations, causing them to grow and divide uncontrollably. These cells form tumors that can invade nearby tissues and spread to other areas.
Signs and symptoms of Bladder Cancer
- Blood in urine (hematuria)
- Frequent urination
- Painful urination
- Lower back pain
- Pelvic pain
Types of Bladder Cancer
Bladder cancer is classified based on the involved cell types. This classification helps in selecting appropriate treatments. Types include:
Transitional cell carcinoma
The most common, originating in the bladder’s inner lining cells.
Squamous cell carcinoma
Often linked to chronic bladder irritation.
Adenocarcinoma
Begins in mucus-secreting gland cells in the bladder.
